If you need more proof of the importance of making sure that your crew members aren’t distracted by their digital devices while handling hazardous jobs, consider a recent survey showing that 26% of U.S. employees laboring in industrial settings reported that at least one incident had occurred in their workplaces because an employee was distracted by a smartphone.
The survey of 1,019 workers by Screen Education also revealed that 75% of the incidents caused by a digital distraction in industrial facilities led to property damage, and 50% of them resulted in injury or death.
One respondent even reported that a worker’s arm was crushed in a press because he was distracted by his cellphone.
